Explanation of the most important terms
A
ACL | Access Control List. Access rights, which are defined by a role. |
Assets | Assets such as images, videos, documents and audio files. |
API | Application Programming Interface. A set of clearly defined methods of communication between various software components. |
C
CMS | Content Management System. Software for creating, editing and organizing content. |
Controller | A controller monitors the display of data, accepts user actions, evaluates them and acts accordingly. |
CSS | Cascading Style Sheets. CSS is a language that describes the style of an HTML document and how HTML elements should be displayed. |
CSV | Comma-separated values. A text file format in which the separator - contrary to the name - need not mandatorily be a comma. CSV files are used for exchanging structured data. |

DAM | Digital-Asset-Management (DAM) is the saving and management of any digital contents, especially media files such as graphics, videos, music files and text modules. In the field of media, it is sometimes also called Media-Asset-Management (MAM). |
Download | Download indicates the data flow from a remote computer to a local computer. |

Editor | The end user can customize templates in the Editor. Depending on how a template has been customized, various options are available to it for editing texts and images. |
ESP | Email Service Provider. A company that offers email marketing or bulk email services. |

Facet | A facet is a page element or a design rule, which can be provided with differentiated editing rights. By default, editors as well as reviewers have the rights to edit an element. |
Frames | Central module of an InDesign document. Frames can contain text or other objects. A frame can also be used as a placeholder. |

HTML | Hypertext Markup Language. HTML is the standard markup language for creating web pages and web applications. With Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript, it forms a triad of cornerstone technologies for the World Wide Web. |

InDesign | Adobe InDesign. A professional layout and typesetting program for desktop publishing. InDesign makes it possible to visually create one-page or multi-page layouts in any desired page formats. The program assists the designer when dividing and managing the pages and sheets. Files, which were created with InDesign, have the file ending .indd. |
InDesign package | Export format of InDesign. An InDesign package contains all the data and information in order to be able to re-edit the exported file completely on another computer. I.e. the package also contains all the fonts, images, graphics and links that are used. |

JAR | Java Application ARchive. |
JSON | JavaScript Object Notation. Syntax for storing and exchanging data. |
JavaScript | JavaScript, often abbreviated as JS, is a high-level, interpreted programming language. JavaScript enables interactive web pages and thus is an essential part of web applications. The vast majority of websites use it, and all major web browsers have a dedicated JavaScript engine to execute it. |

MAM | see DAM. |
Media | Refer to Assets. |
Media Repeater | Cache server, virtual or physical, installed on the enterprise’s premise that works as relays to access and broadcast content. |
Media Repeater Manager | Central system that manages media repeaters’ configuration on the application plane. |
Metadata | Meta information. Data, which contains information about the properties of other data. The metadata of a photo contains information about aperture and shutter speed, the photographer, the equipment used and the location among other things. |
Metadata field | A field in the interface, in which metadata can be entered. |
MIME type | Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. The Internet media type, also MIME type, classifies the data in the body of a message on the Internet. |

NAR | NiFi Archive. |
Node | Process step in a workflow. Every node can be provided with properties and authorizations. |

Online Publisher | Central management and dispatch system for all content upload and file encodings. |

Package | A package is a collection of codes, which controls a specific field within the software. |
Portable Document Format. A platform-independent file format for documents, which was developed by Adobe Systems. In addition to texts, images and graphics, a PDF file can also contain help texts, which simplify the navigation within the document. For example, this includes clickable contents and miniaturized page previews. | |
Player Manager | Central system that manages the video player configuration to ensure that the right player is delivered for the right user agent at the right time. |
Preview | Preview on the result to be expected. |
Production | The final document, which is created at the end of a customization for the print shop. |
Production overview | A list of all the printable documents created by a user (productions). |

Rendering | In the web-to-print context, the creation of a printable PDF with the help of a typesetting file. |
Resource | Resource is another term for assets. |
Role | A role contains all the necessary rights in order to be able to resolve previously defined tasks. |
RWD | Responsive Webdesign. Design and technical paradigm for creating websites so that they can react to the properties of the end device used, especially smartphones and tablet computers. |

SAN | Storage Area Network. |
Script | Scripts are programs, which are written in scripting languages. In the operating system environment of Microsoft, the term Macros is used in most cases. |
Script direction | The script direction refers to the direction in which the characters are set in case of a language - i.e. from left to right in case of the Romance languages such as Spanish and French and from right to left in case of Arabic. |
Script language | Script languages are programming languages, which are mainly intended for small programs (e.g. Macros). |
Skin | A file, which defines the appearance of the user interface of a computer program. |
Snippet | Snippets are InDesign files, which can be used only in templates. |

Task | Different tasks crop up when a workflow is being processed. They can be carried out automatically or manually by a user. |
Template | Templates are InDesign files, which have been assigned with rules. |
Templater | A person, who prepares templates for the customization. |
Translations | When defining elements, the user is given an option to enter a translation. |

Upload | Upload indicates the data flow from a local computer to a remote computer. |
URL | Uniform Resource Locator. A URL identifies and locates a resource, such as a Web site, using the access method to be used (for example, the network protocol used, such as HTTP or FTP) and the location of the resource in computer networks. |
User group | A group of users, which is defined manually or on the basis of specific properties. |

VOD | Video On-Demand. A service delivered from the DAM allowing users to watch a video whenever they want. |

WAR | Web application ARchive. |
Widget | A widget is a component of a user interface. |
Workflow | A workflow is a defined sequence of activities. |
X
XFL | Adobe Flash Exchange Format. This format makes it easier for groups to simultaneously work on different elements of a Flash project. |
XHTML | Extensible HyperText Markup Language. Text-based language for structuring and semantic markup of content such as texts, images and hyperlinks in documents. |
XML | Extensible Markup Language. XML is a markup language for displaying hierarchically structured data in the form of text files. |
XMP | The Extensible Metadata Platform is a standard for embedding metadata into digital assets. |
