Media Delivery Billing Documentation
Overview
Wedia offers a Digital Asset Management solution equipped with a Media Delivery functionality. This allows clients to publish and embed various content types including images, videos, audio, and documents on eCommerce and corporate websites.
This document details how the billing mechanism works based on the Media Delivery of these assets.
Billing Method
The billing for Wedia's Media Delivery solution is based on a "credits" system. Consumption of these credits is calculated on a monthly basis and the sum of the consumed credits is billed at the end of each month as per the contract agreement signed by the client. The amount of credits consumed depends on the type of asset published and the number of views it receives.
Below are the credit calculations for each type of primary asset:
Image: 1 view equals 1 credit
Video: 1 play equals 1500 credits
Document: 1 view equals 30 credits — Audio: 1 play equals 30 credits
The term "view" or "hit" refers to a single instance when an end-user accesses and views the content.
The term "play" refers to a single instance when an end-user accesses the player and initiates playback. This can occur either through an explicit user action, such as clicking on the play button, or automatically if the player is set to "auto play". In the latter scenario, a "play" is registered when the player starts playing the media automatically.
In addition, the analytics for all the views are included within the credit cost. This analytics service covers a 12-month period since each view.
Credit Calculation Methodology for Each Asset Type
Image
An image is considered viewed when it is displayed on a webpage on an external website or the DAM Portal and Back-Office using an <img> tag, or an embed code. We use CDN delivery logs to determine the number of hits to the image. This includes all variations of the image (e.g., resized, cropped, etc.). Each distinct hit to an image equals one credit.
Alongside basic image types, Wedia's DAM solution supports a broad range of complex image types. Each unique view of these image types is also calculated as a credit. The following sections provide more detailed information about the types of images supported and how views are counted.
Image Types
Basic image types include JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, and HEIC files. When these images are displayed on a webpage using an <img> tag, each distinct view is calculated as one credit. This calculation includes all variations of the image, such as resized or cropped versions.
Complex image types include TIFF, Photoshop (PSD), EPS, and Illustrator (AI) files. Just like basic image types, the credit calculation for complex image types follows the same rule.
Additional Document Types Considered as Images
In addition to the basic and complex image types, certain document types are also considered as images in terms of credit calculation. These document types include InDesign files, 3D, DXF/DWG and 360-degree images.
For Adobe InDesign files, Wedia provides a multi-page document player to display these files on a webpage. Each unique view of an InDesign document using this player is considered one credit.
Similarly, for 360-degree images, Wedia offers a specific 360 player to enable their display on a webpage. Each distinct view of a 360-degree image using this player is also counted as one credit.
3D contents, alongside with DXF / DWG files, are displayed using a specific 3D player. Each distinct view of a 3D file using this player is also counted as one credit.
Note: All document types that are not PDF and Office documents fall under this category and are considered as images for credit calculation purposes.
Video
An video file is marked as "played" when it's streamed via the Wedia video player on an external webpage, DAM Portal, or Back-Office using Wedia's provided embed code. The video player's integrated analytics system records each "play" event, with each instance equating to a deduction of 1500 credits from the client's monthly allocation.
When the video is downloaded on a local computer, it is also counted as “played”.
Document (PDF, Microsoft Office document) & Audio
A document is considered viewed when it is displayed on a webpage on an external website or the DAM Portal and Back-Office using an embed code provided by Wedia, which opens a Wedia document player. We process the CDN delivery log to find out all the calls made to this embed code. Each call made to the document's embed code equals 30 credits.
An audio file is marked as "played" when it's streamed via the Wedia audio player on an external webpage, DAM Portal, or Back-Office using Wedia's provided embed code. The audio player's integrated analytics system records each "play" event, with each instance equating to a deduction of 30 credits from the client's monthly allocation.
The credit-based billing system employed by Wedia for media delivery services ensures that you only pay for the actual consumption of resources. We hope this documentation has provided you with a clear understanding of how the billing credits work within the Wedia DAM solution.
