Panel
Where to find the Dylation panel
In addition to the tools, you also need the Dylation panel to use the plugin. It can be opened via the menu Windows > Extensions > Wedia Dylation.
Behaviour
The panel behaves like any other InDesign Panel. It can be docked, connected to other panels or float on its own.
User interface
The Panel "Wedia Dylation" is divided in three parts:
Frame settings
Content settings
Adaption settings.
Panel menu
The panel menu is located in the upper right corner of the Wedia Dylation Panel.
You can reset the template to the version without any dynamic layout data by clicking on Delete all dynamic layout data.
Alternatively, you can also reset only selected frames by clicking on Delete selected dynamic layout data.
Refresh layout view can be used to show temporarily due to inDesign updates hidden dylation position markers.
You can work with rotated frames when Support rotated frames is enabled.
If Show anchors/arrows is checkmarked the Anchor and Distance position markers will be shown.
If Show tooltips is checkmarked pop up windows containing tool tips will appear if the cursor is moved on an icon.
The Custom formats view enables the user to select predefined formats for adaptions and to define custom formats as well.
The Structure view shows the connections of a selected frame.
Info will show the extensions’s version number.
License contains your license key.
Change Dylation mode in Wedia document will give you the possibility to choose between "Automatic", "On demand" and "Inactive".
Frame settings
Frame name
This can be used to define a frame name for the selected element. The content of this box is transferred to the script label, thus the name will be shown in Script Label and Wedia as well. Only the frame name is editable, the field rule ID and the sequence number stay unchanged.
Proportional Size
When the check box is activated, the selected frame(s) will be proportionally scaled when adapting. The prerequisite for this is that the selected frame is allocated to three frame edge tools.
Note
For proportional size you use two tools of Dylation on opposite edges of the frame.
Frame Type
The upper right icon will give you a visual representation of the frame type.
There are four different specifications possible:
Text frame, symbolized by a "T"
Image frame, symbolized by a camera icon
Shape or Line, symbolized by an empty rectangle
Multiple Selections, symbolized by all of the above show at once.
Below the "Frame Type Icon" you will see the InDesign Frame ID: Image, Text or Rectangle followed by “#” and a unique number.
Content settings
As long as no frame is selected, the panel remains inactive.
If you select an unassigned frame, this view is displayed:
As soon as you select a graphic frame, you will get this view:
If you select a text frame, this view will be displayed:
To configure the properties of the frame, simply click on the power icon . Different options are now available, depending on the frame type.
In addition to the standard options there several other settings available.
These settings will be described in the following chapters.
Adaption settings
Target Page Size
To choose the page formats for the adaption, the dropdown menu can be used. In addition to standard pages sizes provided by InDesign, there are user-defined page formats.
The boxes below can be used to enter individual page sizes (Width x Height). The arrow buttons enable a step rate, which is predefined in the InDesign Settings. The default unit for the measurement mirrors the document setting. If you change the unit settings for document, you will need to close and reopen the document for the Panel to update. You may also use dot, pica, inch, millimeter, centimeter, cirero, agaten, pixel abbreviations by typing.
The small page symbol to the right lets you swap the document dimensions (Landscape vs. Portrait)
New Document
When checked, pressing Start Adaption will perform the adaption in a new document (leaving the current document unchanged). In addition, the new document will be saved at the location of the current document inside a sub directory <document name_adaption>, with the name of <document name_WxH_Measurement>.
Icons
The chain icon can be used to set the increases/decreases of the values to proportional. Any change in one of the value boxes will automatically change the other value proportional to the changed value.
The two icons (standing and lying person) can be used to change the layout direction from landscape to portrait.
Start Adaption
This button will start the adaption process. The single steps of the adaption will be executed on the basis of the predefined execution sequence with the help of the adaption tools (Anchor and Distance Arrow).
